Each piece is handmade on my narrowboat home in the Midlands of England. I gain much of my inspiration from the beautiful nets traditionally used as porthole covers which I see as we travel about on the canals, so I do not claim originality for any of them! They look beautiful in any setting, as a table decoration or even as a wall or window hanging, as well as being ideal for porthole covers. The original working narrowboats were travelling homes to the people who worked on them and to brighten their tiny living cabins the womenfolk would make crochet trimmings for every possible use. For a fascinating description of the lives of canal boat people please visit :- http://www.canaljunction.com/narrowboat/crochet.htm For lots more information on life on the canals please visit :- http://www.boatmuseumsociety.org.uk Please take time to visit my friend Elizabeth Bryant's site at :- http://www.englishcrafts.co.uk
My site is split into :- Cabin lace - lengths of filet crochet in various designs - ideal for edging shelves and windows. Unique - Sometimes I find that the materials I used for one of my stock patterns are no longer available and this in turn means that I can not reliably offer to make another of that design. Sometimes I find an old pattern which appeals to me and I set about re-creating it using modern thread . The designs on this page are therefore 'one-offs' - bookmark this page and watch for bargains! Doilies - Designs where the materials are still available so I am able to offer singles or multiples of the pattern and size as quoted. I am of course more than happy to answer any questions you may have - simply use the button at the top of this page to contact me. |
